Psychic Larvae...What Are They?

"So, since you're a student of Franz Bardon, what's your take on psychic larvae?"

I love the question. This whole section of his book always read more like a horror novel to me, what with all the different paranormal creatures that he catalogs, yet I always think that it's well worth exploring what Bardon left us before his time came to be with Divine Providence (Bold emphasis my own, along with personal notation within parenthesis)

"The difference between an "elemental" and a larva is basically the fact, that an "elemental" is created deliberately by the magician, whereas the larvae form themselves involuntarily, in the corresponding mental sphere, as the result of a strong psychical excitement, no matter which kind of excitement this happens to be. The stronger the excitement is, the more mental material a person is subsiding, all the stronger, denser and more viable the larvae will become, especially in the case of a regular and frequent repetition of the same psychical excitement (It was said about Bardon in his memoir by his son, that he was never seen watching TV, and I have a theory that this was part of the reason why he avoided it so much, along with it most likely getting in the way of his own magical development). This involuntary formation of larvae occurs in any human being, magically trained or not, young or old, intelligent or not, regardless of whether the person knows or ignores it. If the psychical excitement is fading, due to the fact that no attention at all has been paid to the upsetting affair, the larva, too, will disappear, by and by, until finally dissolving itself. Consequently, there will be in the mental sphere a constant bringing forth and dying of larvae, naturally at the costs of the mental matter of some human being, we are causing these events by our own psychical excitements. The reasons therefore can be very different, usually fear, grief, sorrow, fright, hatred and envy and such like producing them (Notice how he is labeling them by using negative character traits on their own as opposed to actions). The shape which the larva shows depends on the cause of the psychical excitement and is always symbolic. Anyone who knows something about symbolism will be able to get a clear idea about this problem, for example, a thought of love will always be symbolised by a heart (this is actually a lot more complex than how he is presenting it here and can involve many more factors such as memories, visual stimulae, and other emotions that far surpass simple symbolism by itself), a thought of hatred by an arrow or a flash, etc (but in passing, his simple examples will suffice). In spite of the fact that the larvae, these undesirable mental inhabitants, cannot be seen by normal human beings (MUGGLES!!!) they do still exist, and the well-trained magician can perceive them on the mental plane (through magical training or in possessing a natural gift of clairvoyance). In sensitive or excitable persons, the mental matter is much more separable and the reproduction of larvae is obviously easier and more intense. Such people wreck themselves, their health, especially their nerves, but they also damage their intellectual faculties and involve other highly suggestible people too (This is why overly sensitive people can be their own worst enemy by ultimately beating themselves up with their own emotions).

Any larvae, being condensed very strongly, will always show a great deal of self-preservation instinct and will try to prolong its duration of life as far as possible. For this reason, it stimulates the mind of the given person, trying at every opportunity, to draw his attention to the cause of excitement and to revive it constantly (notice how he says “it stimulates the mind” as if it is not something we do, yet more something that the larvae does in order to preserve itself, or get stronger once it has been created). Such a well-fed larva can become fatal to a sensitive or emotional individual, and numerous mental disturbances such as persecution-mania and similar are the result of it. How many people are living under the erroneous supposal to be haunted and destroyed by black magicians (even today, still far too many) whereas they are, in fact, victims of their own fancies, or putting it correctly: victims of the larva they have been creating themselves. People like these will usually find out all about this problem, not before they have left their mortal frame. Only very few persons are actually haunted magically. (...)

The magician will now realize, why there has been laid such a stress on the importance of introspection, control and mastering of the thoughts at the beginning of the practical part of this work (Here, Bardon, is also providing a solution for helping rid oneself of this problem, as doing the work is a continual process, yet because larvae is a concept that is being presented in a negative way,  he continues with a negative consequence). Supposing he did not get the thoughts under the control of his willpower, in the course of his development, he would unconsciously create larvae which might become fatal to him sooner or later (Ain’t even a thang. Introspeck yourself before you wreck yourself).”

Excerpt from Initiation Into Hermetics by Franz Bardon. Step VI, Page 132 - 33. (Ruggeberg Edition)

It’s an interesting topic for sure and at the same time, one that I definitely acknowledge, and recognize as kind of malicious the way our vices can creep up on us sometimes if we're not paying close attention to how we utilize our time, while it can also build up gradually in the background without us noticing. That's why my girlfriend is currently offering sessions to help people with this issue, and why I found your question so timely. As someone who is seemingly untouched by this stuff, there is clearly nothing stopping her, or slowing her down, and won't be anytime soon, which is why she helps people all the time when it comes to overcoming their vices, and you're certainly more than welcome to read her introductory course material on Mental Hygiene here : )

One book titled, Psychic Self Defense: For Home and Office by Choa Kok Sui also goes into this concept, as the author was a fan of Bardon, yet he classified them as elementals which Bardon clearly distinguishes one from the other as separate entities. In this book, the author has even illustrated these beings forming from any of the addictions or vices that one might have.

There is also a film that you can watch for fun that one of my friends sent me awhile back that has to do with this subject. It's called, Branded, and was released in 2012. It has to do with the way we feed labels with our thoughts and energy, as if products are really just living beings who eventually take control of people by getting them addicted to whatever that label represents, so that it can keep thriving off of people's energy.

With all of that being said, I also think that we should avoid falling into the ascetic category mindset and way of looking at things too much.

Excessively doing something can be a distraction to our goals in life, yet wanting to be our self and expressing ourselves freely is a totally healthy and noble pursuit. It can just take a lot of willpower sometimes to overcome feelings of guilt and shame that has been instilled into people culturally or early on that seem to move people away from thinking that it's okay to be themselves.

I look at larvae as “inner demons” just as much as they could be beneficent angels that make up our inner planes and thought world, and I also think that one person's demons could easily be the next person's angels who might not even be able to comprehend how they would be seen as anything less than such. This could also be looked at as someone complaining over their "first world problems". It is all perspective here for the most part. Yet I don't like the name, larvae, as it sounds fairly repugnant. Who we are as people, character traits, and habits, good or bad that we try to break or get over, help shape who we are, yet when I think of negative qualities, I think that this concept is in dire need of a name change, as it is clearly causing confusion. Our negative qualities should not be demonized, as looking at them in this way will only make them worse. It is an ideology that instills fear, and creates more negativity, yet when we change ourselves as a result of working with our negative qualities, it is what makes people so beautiful. Overcoming our own obstacles, or limitations, like the lotus flower that rises from the murk, I think we all have these negative qualities within us and also hanging around us in our energy field, yet it also has to have a new name unless it was Bardon's motive to give it an ugly title as an incentive to further persuade magicians to ennoble themselves.

I think a much healthier approach would be to take away the horror angle of grouping these in a category just before phantoms and instead be like, "yeah, we all have our own ways that we want to express ourselves as humans, but that’s one of the things that makes life so great for a lot of people without entirely realizing it right off, and it's mostly based on perception anyway". The whole "anything can be used for good or ill" applies just as much to larvae as any of the other beings in the section of that chapter. They really get a bad rep, but people's inner demons make them beautiful just as much as the concept of having "purity" would, because it all makes a person up into who they are. Demonizing things is not the way to go, because it ultimately means we would be demonizing ourselves, which people do enough already. I also think it would be much better to take a more lighthearted approach about the whole thing. To look at ourselves and laugh where we may see fault in ourselves, because this will help release those beings within ourselves when we learn to see them as something that is beautiful or allow them to transform completely into new beings of a more positive variety and nature.

Bardon didn't even want to originally accept who eventually became his best student, Dr. MK, because he didn't seem to have enough negative character traits in his personality, or anything really off putting about himself for magical development to even be worth his time. So I think that it is of the highest value for all of us to look at our own negative qualities as if they are our friends, as they definitely make up who we are and make us unique, and smile at them, because it is one of our biggest opportunities for obtaining magical development and spiritual growth. Bardon also stated in his book that "some especially endowed disciples have been able to discover hundreds of failures in the finest shades. Disciples like these possessed a good meditation and a deep penetration into their own souls".

So I also think that it comes down to our own judgments and the way that we see our world. I think these ideas can be very unhealthy and border on dogmatic, and that we should more or less just go with the flow, and yet I also think that the more useless distractions one cuts out of their life, the more they can focus on what they truly wish to experience rather than someone else's dream.

Think about how energetic everything is, and how the effects of giving something a negative connotation that must die in order for it to be completely rid of would be less desirable than just transmuting it into something positive.

In my opinion, and no offense to Bardon in any way, but I think he kind of took this approach when it came to clearing one's mind of all thoughts through meditation as well, and why people often struggle so much with that (aside from it already being difficult for most beginners, and placing it as a step 1 exercise in his training program, I think it is still exactly the place for it to go). However, this exercise is also not really presented in a way that seems that pleasant, just like the sound of the word, larvae. When in fact, meditation is totally awesome and feels amazing and blissful. It should not be seen as a task to meditate and clear one's mind "forcefully" or "willfully" of all thoughts, but instead It is something that should just happen, and as much as something one does for the love and enjoyment of doing it (and how it brings a swift death to all the larvae that one might have, haha).

Taking sea salt baths, grounding, oil pulling, banishings, incense, meditation for clearing our own thoughts, and introspection are all remedies to help us in any situation in life especially with removing the dreaded "larvae" which ultimately amounts to our distractions, addictions, and vices that may lead us away from achieving the goals that we seek.

When we succeed at achieving our goals, we move past what might have been slowing us down, and we can always do magic to dissolve these obstacles within and outside of ourselves, or do a kind of evocation with our own thoughts, feelings, and these beings in order to understand them better and transmute them into positive beings that can change us for the better.

In the book Brain Magick by Philip Farber, he has a section on Evocation which Justin b. the Magician (a Bardon trained magician) has also said is surprisingly similar to his own approach and ideas.

Basically, you imagine a circle around you. Then you do a banishing by taking a breath and filling the circle with your awareness, and then when you exhale, bring your awareness to a single point on your chest, and do that several times or until you feel that your circle is clear. Then imagine a feeling that is undesirable or something really painful that is bothering you and get a good idea of what this looks like to you, along with all the ideas associated with it, and details that it has for you, what color it might be, the way it might move as an energy flow, and then take this form and flip it around so it is facing you outside of your circle. Put this form in an imagined triangle or box and start asking it why it is acting the way it is while feeding it energy. Just keep asking it “why?” over and over while feeding it energy until you finally arrive at what feels like a final answer of some kind, or it transforms into a benevolent being of some kind, or ends up taking on an entirely new form. When it has transformed into a beneficent being of some kind or you feel that your question has been resolved (I have had mine go from demons wreaking havoc on the astral plane to becoming angels) simply reabsorb the being back into yourself and you are done.

Simple as that, and it can be completely and totally life changing. I hope everyone tries it out : )

So with elementals and larvae I think a good thing to keep in mind is not only moderation like anything else, but that Bardon, god bless him, was also x-tian, and with that came certain ideas about purity and karma that I don't have. Aside from that, I think that it can be very useful, if something is emotionally bothering you, you can always try the above mentioned exercise, introspective work in a journal by using your soul mirrors, or even try out some highly effective mental hygiene exercises!

Good ol' fashioned willpower works well because we are in control of our lives and experiences, while some other’s may let these beings get the best of them.

That is the key, not letting the ideas of some ascetic monks about how you must live your life get the best of you, or in the way of what you would like to do in the world because that was the path that they chose and you get to choose yours!

It is never too late to change ourselves for the better. So my personal solution is to build up all of these beings inside ourselves as allies. Something of a queendom or kingdom that will help us in all pursuits in life, and to treat them nicely, as they all make up apart of our self, and each one could potentially do something different to help change our lives for the better!

Life is beautiful,
Matthew

Magical Sacrifices

Like all things, in order for one to truly benefit from magic, they are going to have to let certain things go, and this comes in many different forms, and varieties. On the mental level, it involves letting go of distracting thoughts. This one is often tough for people who have clairvoyant tendencies, because they always seem to be receiving things mentally in the form of moving images, and thoughts, that might lead one to being distracted, veering off from their practice, and instead getting caught up in the fantastic world inside their head...

Self-Healing

As someone who found their way into the occult and magic through the gateway of healing, I want to talk about that at least somewhat today, so others can have a working self-healing practice of their own, quickly, and easily.

*Disclaimer: This is not to be used in the place of seeking medical attention, or to replace medical advice from doctors. I am not a doctor, regardless of people telling me that I am one. I am entirely more of a metaphysician, and specifically, a magician. Take everything that you hear from me in this article as something you could potentially combine with whatever your existing healthcare provider is telling you. I except no responsibility for anything that you do with this information, except that I hope it helps those who need it, or any inquisitive minds that might want to know more on these things.*

There are all kinds of “healers” out there. Some of them even heal themselves through causing pain in others. This is more of a kind of energetic stealing, yet by taking some of the suggestions that I describe here, you can avoid energetically feeding off people, along with protecting your own energy system at the same time. Consciously, people tend not to take energy from other people on purpose, yet it just kind of happens for different reasons. With this knowledge you won't even need to worry about that at all because you will have so much of your own energy!

A young man begins playing the piano downstairs as I write this, expressing their emotions on the keys, and letting their true talent shine as their stress leaves them. One of their true loves, resonating through the floorboards up to me. He stops abruptly, and the door slams closed. Did he heal from his pain, or did he create sadness in exchange? The melody of magic that rang within him that he played openly has the power to change all things, and we get to decide in what ways we choose this to be arranged.

Last night I did healing work for someone. They complained of lower back issues, so I took a decent amount of time doing energy work for them. That person had also been doing energy work all day themselves, so they were absolutely  charged and radiant from doing it.

When we are full of energy, we seek “higher” things, such as getting a better paying job, moving beyond useless fears, and helping others in need. While those with “lower” energy, have a tendency to vampirize others, and bring other people down to their level. Mostly this is done unconsciously, but it does not take away from the fact that it still happens quite often.

If you are into the idea of doing healing work on yourself, and soon after, for other people, I know a few good sources, and places to start.

I was originally recommended the book ‘Quantum Touch’, and was able to do healings on people in less than a minute's time. I also recommend the new one, ‘Quantum Touch 2.0’, along with Pranic Healing, though I would recommend avoiding the dogma of that particular system. You do not need to be religious in anyway to become a healer, as energy predates something that is able to be predated. Yogi Ramacharaka aka William Walker Atkinson had a lot of good things to say in his book ‘Psychic Healing’ and Pranic Healing actually took a lot of their ideas from him in many ways, and then called it ancient, which it is, but not necessarily the person from which it came from. The founder of Pranic Healing was a fan of Ramacharaka's work along with the next author I am about to mention. Most especially, and as always, check out Franz Bardon’s system ‘Initiation Into Hermetics’ where he gives a fantastic crash course on working with vital life force energy in the Step 3 Addendum of his book, and where he also teaches the student how to accumulate vital life force within themselves, and use it to heal other people. I also recommend checking out Rawn Clark’s system, ‘The Magic of IHVH-Adonai’ which is also known as TMO if you are looking to be up all night from the high energy boost you will receive from practicing this quick and easy approach. Or one could perform the Middle Pillar Ritual if they find the time for it. It’s completely up to you, but those are just some of the most effective options I have found available, and offered publically. I have my own ways of doing things, but I first learned how from all these different aforementioned systems.

As I continue to write this, the sun shines down on me, so much so that I can’t see without the need of my own hoodie covering me. The sun, with its golden energy, brings life to all things, and we can learn from the way that its rays are projecting outwardly, and apply it to our own practice of energetic healing.

You can read books, and practice other people’s training, but today I’d like to offer a universal approach that can be practiced immediately, and used at anytime, and applied in any healing modality.

The idea revolves around the concept, similar to what the Kabbalists teach, that we are simultaneously existing within vital life force energy all around us, and that it also exists in everything, yet we may intake more of this when we are breathing it in consciously. Simply by imagining a sea of white light all around us, we begin taking it in, and this charges us with brilliant radiance more and more. This is the basic universal idea that all these systems use, and that we can direct this energy with our own thoughts, and intent, by directing the energy with our own free will.

I have had experiences where I am walking through airport terminals after red eye flights, and a little charge up is all I need, though I don’t seem to have the time because I’m hurrying to the next gate. So I simply begin practicing and imagining while rushing around, and it works! In fact, I would argue that doing this while moving around can be more effective on some levels, as it has a way of impressing the energy inwardly on a more deeper level, as our movements allow it to internally heal and massage the body.

So for those who are perfectly healthy, there is now no excuse for having low energy, as we are constantly surrounded by it. You can literally do it all day if you want just by allowing it to flood into your body and continuously shine more and more outwardly.

Cultivating Willpower and Combining Fire with Akasha

In Hermeticism, it is an important task to practice the balancing act of each element within one’s body.

This is hard for a number of reasons. The first one I can think of is that water and earth are passive, and they tend to cause one to slow down, feel, enjoy silence, and passive things. In essence, these are difficult to cultivate in our age because today’s world is so fast paced that it really requires a continued motion and momentum in order to be successful.

Slowing down and being introspective has major health benefits and is a positive practice, though it can also get in the way of us attaining certain things.

Ultimately, doing these kinds of practices can really make it challenging to succeed in the real world, because our focus is often more focused toward working in the other planes and spheres of existence outside our material plane.

If we look at bands that did really well starting out and then not so hot later on in their career, they had that fire when they began, and then they lost it over time , or at some point, getting watered down or thinking too much when they began to overly reflect on their career.

What people are craving is the fire element. That active force

Water is blissful

Air is uplifting

Earth is wise

But fire gets the job done

Fire is what manifests things more quickly and with that special charge of energy needed to initiate the motion of our wishes being projected out into the universe like the sun's rays, as it is also the bringer of life to us from the sun. It's nature is success and its future is bright.

Balance is an important virtue to have, but so is movement, activity, being something, doing things.

For me personally, when I do meditation practice it slows me down, and in a way, it really separates me out from other people in the world, or rather it alienates me from other people who don’t do that kind of work I do, because they're not able to relate real well with where I just was. In a sense I am also not being true to myself when I do these practices, because it changes who I am and honestly can be extremely counterproductive at times, and I say this, even though I like being a mage, yet I still have to face facts sometimes. Otherwise, how would I truly learn and grow.

Most importantly, meditation empties my thoughts, which in turn, destroys the momentum I had going on initially, so I have to basically start from scratch and build it up from nothing again. This can have its advantages when starting big projects though or looking to be inspired.

I look at people out there who are successful and whether we want to draw parallels to the other elements or not, those people out there who are achievers are almost always fiery without exception. They have drive that gets them what they want, done, and out of the way, and onto the next one.

One might say, that being too focused on one element would certainly indicate an imbalance, however I would dispute this, as we are living in a physical world, and where is the fire located but at the very core of this earth in our material plane.

We could be airy and debate how to do things the correct way

Be watery and let our feelings get in the way

Be earthy and go slowly

Or be fiery and get the job done right now

So now that I have said my piece on how I feel that having an abundance of the fire element in our personality is good, how do we then go about cultivating this marvelous force within ourselves?

In the work that I do, one breathes in the fire element into every pore of their body with the exception of it going into their brain or heart as these organs are quite sensitive and can possibly get damaged with a powerful enough accumulation of any kind.

I wish the world was into being balanced, but it is not. So far from it actually, that I feel it would be better to cultivate fire in a positive way, so we can help show people how to use it productively as opposed to the negative form that leads to destruction, perhaps more so than having the other elements balanced within ourselves, because far more people already have a working understanding of the fire element.

Here's how we can help other people out in this respect. The fire element already has a big sway over people, yet on a mass scale, they are not using it effectively in their own lives.

If we learn to work with the fire element in a positive way, it's constructive and will lead us to success in our own lives.

Also in the system that I practice, the Akasha or Void is considered the birth place of every element, so by mastering the Akasha (not to be confused with the Akashic Records, but rather, working with the actual force that is the akasha itself) we get mastery over every element, though primarily, if we combine the force of fire with the limitless akasha together, we can make massive improvements and progress in our own lives.

Essentially, there is a technique given where we create a ritual to affirm our mastery over every element while in the akasha, as the akasha itself manifests instantly. However it is this force of fire combined with the akasha that will help guide us to where we would like to go, quite quickly.

I have manifested things instantly simply by working the fire element into a self created ritual. One could look at the triangle of manifestation in evocation as a symbol of the fire element. Or the all seeing eye, as the sense of sight being connecting with the fire element and willpower.

So this force of fire, combined with the Akasha is what will get things done quickly in life.

My suggestion would then be to experiment and work with these forces together in order to create the life that you want. If you ever feel overwhelmed by the fire element, you can always imagine releasing it back into the universe where it came from and even doing things like walking barefoot on the ground and taking a bath in order to help remove it.

If anyone finds anything in this article particularly interesting or useful, there is much more that I can say on the element of fire and the act of using it to manifest.

The Need to Do Things Differently

My life has changed a whole fucking lot over the last year, primarily because I'm using sorcery to get what I want in life, and also because I'm working to create the life that I see fit for myself rather than just passively excepting it for how it is, as if every undesirable situation that I experienced at some point was some kind of lesson I was supposed to learn. I believe the universe is out to help us as much as we want it for ourselves, and that is our choice to enjoy the prizes along the way, if we so choose to, yet they were always there, and it's just that sometimes we might need a change in our perspective in order to better notice them or appreciate the ones we already have.

A year ago I started doing sorcery almost everyday. I'm actually feeling quite nostalgic writing about
it, as I was thinking about this last night when I had my first success with it on the first day I consciously chose those practices. I get feelings over how far I've come. I've told some of my friends that within a year I went from sleeping in a moldy basement to moving to California, being given a car, an amazing place to live with a million dollar view, a high paying job, and on top of that I'm going back to school for my second semester this spring!

What a year it's been! Yet, it's not last year, but this current one, and through all the failures I had and stumbled upon, mostly wanting love, I now can say that I have the girlfriend I wanted to be with, and for that I am truly thankful.

Please understand for a second how ridiculous this is to me, that within a year I was able to do all that, and make these changes. Regardless of my circumstances you are able to do what I did. Wanna know what I was doing before said moldy basement? I didn't work for over a year and spent that time on my spiritual development mostly with Franz Bardon's system 'Initiation Into Hermetics'. I was practically moving in the opposite direction that I am now!

It was only until I combined what I was doing with sorcery from the book, 'The Miracle of New Avatar Power' (NAP) that I began getting the results that I wanted. Or as one of my friends put it, "Yeah, once you started working with spirits your life really took off!" And that it did, and will continue to, as that's what doing the work is all about! Actual results. Life changing stuff begins to happen and it really helps having a nice relationship with meditation along with regular introspection before breaking trail into new unknown areas that you want to explore in life, after having known yourself a bit first.

I will confess that lately, I have mostly been doing the meditation and introspection side of the work, because I have been on vacation for almost a month now, and have been making plans for my future. Meditation frees one from the wreckage of distractions so we can better focus on achieving our goals. Too much meditation and one can become a "space-shot" with no personality, which I don't want for myself, so I simply combine the two together with the active practice being sorcery.

Meditation for me is that empty canvas, that empty set, and sorcery fills it in as the finished product, and the public screening.

Unconsciously, I had been looking for a system like NAP for awhile. I had been doing the practice out of Israel Regardie's book 'The Art of True Healing' where he guides you to practice the Middle Pillar, and combine the energy with the correct planetary correspondence color, and whether this worked out for me or not, it only got minor results. What was left out of the practice was the working with spirits part.

I also thought sorcery was immoral and wrong, partially because in Bardon's system, he kind of looks down upon it as a thing that only people who are immature in their development do, but you wanna know what I think is really immorally wrong and immature? Not going anywhere in life. Not having goals. Being overly dependent on other people. Meditation clears that path, but sorcery said to me "grab these reigns and please don't let go", and I landed in San Francisco.

I told myself that it will be the best year ever, and no matter what happened, it still is.

Shem Angels, Genii, and NAP

Lately I realized the connection between the 72 angels of the Shemhamphorasch and the 72 Mercury Genii featured in ‘The Practice of Magical Evocation’ by Franz Bardon, because I have known for awhile now that many of the spirits in the book, ‘The Miracle of New Avatar Power’ by Geof Gray-Cobb (NAP) also feature these angels, and so I wanted to learn more about them and their origin.

In ‘The Practice of Magical Evocation’ Franz Bardon states:

"Many Kabbalists mistakenly consider the 72 genii of the Mercurian sphere as the Shemhamphorasch, which is the unspeakable name of God, as expressed through the four syllable-letters, YOD-HEH-VAU-HEH, the well known Tetragrammaton or Adonai.

True initiates and Kabbalists are well aware of the fact that nomenclatures which also have
numbers affixed to them are numerical keys which refer to the proper use of the methods and directions given."

However, the 72 names given for the genii of the Mercurian sphere *are* the same as the Shemhamphorasch, yet with some nuances and tweaks in spelling. Most seem to appear verbatim as to how their names were originally listed in the Shem. With NAP, the spelling is often different too, yet you can still tell that they are Shem angels, because it would appear that Geof Gray-Cobb paired up these angels together as they were listed next to each other in almost all of the offensive NAP spells in chapter 8 of the book, like so:

Defensive Armor Ritual - 5. MAHASIAH and 6. LEHAHEL

Psychic Guided Missile Ritual - 35. KEVEQIAH (Chavakiah) and 36. MENDIAL (Menadel)

The Etheric Shrapnel Ritual - 37. ANIEL and 38. CHAAMIAH (Haamiah)

The Spirit Sentry Ritual - 55. MIBAHIA (Mehaiah) and 56. POOYAL (Poiel)

The Occult Judo Ritual - 65. DAMBAYAH (Damabiah) and 66. MENQAL (Manakel)

The Theurgic Booby-Trap Ritual - 3. SAITEL (Sitael) and 4. OLMIAH (Elemiah)

The only offensive spell that does not seem to pair two Shem angels together who are listed in a row features YECHOEL who is arguably not even a spirit from what I’ve seen, as it appears to be “a Hebrew name given to males meaning “May God Live” or “God Shall Live.” And the other being paired up with this “Hebrew name” is LEHAHIAH who is the 34th Shem angel. Together, these two work together in the Astral Bomb Attack spell.

Beyond that, it seems that the only other Shem angel who is worked with in the more popular spells in NAP would be IELAHIAH, the 44th Shem angel, who is called upon in the Incantation To Win Legal Action.

Every other spirit in the book would appear to be from various traditions, and I think it would do well to include some of them here.

Before I do this though, it would seem that similar to YECHOEL, who I previously mentioned, the spirit (Mightiest) DYNAMIS, also appears to *not* be a spirit, yet another word to describe something. In this case, it means “Miraculous Powers”. Appropriate, seeing as the name of the book has the word “Miracle” in the title and also because this spell is the Incantation to Give Power Over Others. The fascinating thing though, is that upon further research, it seems that this word is actually used to describe a class of angels as well. So this spell would seem to have the potential to tap into a whole pantheon of angel spirits perhaps. As an aside, pretty much any copy that one could find of this book, ‘The Miracle of New Avatar Power’ would be a used one, as it was published in the 1970’s and is now out of print. The page with this spell on it, in the hardback edition that I have, is the only page that has a crease on it from it’s previous owner. Possibly hinting that they really liked the power from this spell and used it a lot. Or maybe it even says something about the power that DYNAMIS had over them, seeing how it was the only page that was folded at its corner. Perhaps bending ones will like the page.

I also posted recently on my Facebook wall about how I have been studying the origin of the NAP spirits, and that I found where some more of them came from, beyond the Shem angels, which I discussed earlier in this blog. After performing the NAP Ritual, the first spell in the book (the whole book to me is like a giant spell) The Incantation for Winning Contests comes next, which works in the spirit LABEZERIN. It follows, with the second spell being the Invocation for Money with NITIKA. BOTH of these “spirits” are from ‘The Nuctemeron’ by Apollonius of Tyana, a work which some say derives these beings from Syrian lore. There is one more spirit from ‘The Nuctemeron’, known as JAZAR, who is worked into The Spell to Excite Love.

Here’s the thing though! Regardless of where the original source comes from, the author of NAP is speculated to have used ‘The Nuctemeron’ which states in the second sentence that:

“By these genii the ancient hierophants understood neither angels nor demons, but *moral forces* or *personified virtues*.” (Asterisk emphasis my own).

So what this tells me, is that these FORCES, are not necessarily spirits, beings, or entities, but more like a power that one is invoking, similar to a Hebrew God name, or other words of power that someone performing magic might use. Just like I mentioned earlier with YECHOEL and DYNAMIS which are names that describe something, LABEZERIN is the name used to describe the energy or force that represents success, NITIKA is a force involving precious stones (not necessarily money) however because of the amount of people whom have used the NAP grimoire, and the highly charged words of power used when working with NITIKA, it has become a massively powerful force indeed, and then finally JAZAR who is the “force” or “virtue” that represents love.

So right there, at least FIVE of the NAP spirits are actually more of a kind of energy, that when worked with, activates their power internally (similar to the NAP ritual) along with creating an impression that influences reality around us. I cannot tell you how grateful I was, along with the feeling of relief that came when I discovered this, because NITIKA never appeared to me like a being, but always like a bright building light of power inside me. NITIKA, in my opinion is a completely internal force through my own experience, though that is just me. Either way, this research seems to back up how I perceive it.

When we put into consideration, the techniques and methods used in NAP, a whole lot of what is taking place has to do with activating internal forces within us to get the job done. For example, at the end of the NAP rite one is instructed to say aloud, “I know now that my New Avatar Power is flooding to the surface”. Then one can choose to work with the middle pillar to charge themselves which is a form of energy work and building up one’s vital power within themselves to higher levels. Added on-top of these two things, working with a name that is really a “moral force” or “personified virtue” and you have a completely internal process going on that is drawing all of this stuff to you. For lack of better words, you are pulling all that you desire, and to yourself, in order to create a better life. That isn’t to say that these beings aren’t external from us, but rather, they know how to activate these forces within us to attract what we want in life, because they literally *are* these forces. The NAP rite relaxes us to make the energy channels open up so energy can flow, then the Central/Middle Pillar fills us up with energy, and finally the “spirit” or “being” that is worked with in the spell takes all these massive amounts of energy generated, and creates what they truly are from it. In this sense, the energy you build up is partially transformed by the “spirit’s” energy signature in order to naturally attract whatever force or virtue they are related to.

Below are the stories behind the different spirits of NAP. I took information from different sources online, yet I found none of them actually crediting where they got it from, so I won’t either, as there is no original place provided to give credit where it is due, except to thank the mysterious authors whom originally contributed it.

ARZEL- (or ARZAL) is one of the four glorious and benevolent angels of the east, who is invoked when one wishes to learn the secret wisdom of God. He has also been attributed to Psalm 80:10, the angel who watches over the sacred seder, "the mountains were overshadowed by the boughs of the cedar of god."Arzal (or Arzel) is one of the four glorious and benevolent angels of the east, who is invoked when one wishes to learn the secret wisdom of God. He has also been attributed to Psalm 80:10, the angel who watches over the sacred seder, "the mountains were overshadowed by the boughs of the cedar of god."

LABEZERIN- Incantation for Winning Contests - In talismanic magic, the genius (spirit) of success. LABEZERIN serves in the 2nd hour of the day. (The Nuctemeron)

NITIKA - A genius of precious stones who presides over the 6th hour. (The Nuctemeron)

(Mighty) ELUBATEL is called upon with two other spirits in the 6th & 7th Books of Moses. The other two spirits are Ebuhuel and Atuesuel, who are called in order to summon demons.

GADIEL- An angel whose name means “God is my wealth”. Interestingly enough, though it’s name has to do with wealth, yet it is used in the NAP spell for protection, so this might be a good angel to work with into the money spell!

ANAEL (Haniel, Hamiel, Onoel, Ariel) – one of the 7 angels of Creation, chief of principalities, prince of archangels, and ruler of Friday angels. Anael exercises dominion over the planet Venus, is one of the luminaries concerned with human sexuality, and is governor of the 2nd Heaven, where he is in charge of prayer ascending from the 1st Heaven. It is Anael who proclaims “open all ye gates” in Isaiah 26:2. In addition, he controls kingdoms and kings on earth and has dominion over the moon. (Along with Gabriel and others) Apart from variations already noted, Anael is, or appears to be Aniyel, Anaphiel (Anafiel), Aufiel. With Uriel, Anael is combined by Shakespeare in The Tempest to form the sprite Ariel. An angel which Anael has been known to be under. Ariel was also quoted by Sir Edward Kelley to be a “comglomerate of Anael and Uriel” In Longfellows The Golden Legend, Anael is one of the angels of the 7 planets, specifically the angel of the Star of Love, (i.e. the Evening Star or Venus). In the Book of Tobit, Anael is the name of Tobit’s brother.

JAZAR- A genius who “compels love.” Jazar is one of the genii of the 7th hour, according to ‘The Nuctemeron’ of Apollonius of Tyana.

PAGIEL- An angel of the moon who is invoked during rituals for the purpose of granting whatever they desire. It may be a good idea to work this angel into any spell, as a way of strengthening results, and helping things manifest smoothly.

KADRIEL- 1 of 3 Kabbalistic angels of prophecy. Created on the eve of the 1st Sabbath. In the Zohar, one of 3 “mouths” created by God at the start of Creation. Another “mouth” created at the same time is the angel Yahadriel. The term seems to denote the voice of prophecy, rather than translation as is the case of the Metatron. The “start of Creation” in which they were created denotes the eve of the first Sabbath (I am unsure who the 3rd angel was, so I will just say that it is Metatron for the time being). (Zohar)

ZOROEL- A Solomonic angel who is able to defeat Kumeatel. One of the thirty-six demons of disease. (I feel that it would be advantageous for the healer to track down each Solomonic angel that is known for defeating each one of the 36 demons of disease in order to find which angels would work best for healing a specific ailment)

SABRIEL- An archangel who is one of the two chiefs of the Tarshishim “the brilliant ones” who are the equivalent of the Virtues- the other is Tarshiel. He is also a guardian of the hall of the First Heaven and is the only angel capable of defeating the demon Sphendonael (a demon of disease).

(Mightiest) DYNAMIS- “Miraculous Powers”. This is also a word that represents an entire class of angels.

IAOTH- In the Testament of Solomon, Iaoth is one of the 7 Archangels (a variant of the 7 Aeons). He is equated with Beqa, the first and fallen of the Aeons. By the power of Iaoth’s name, the demon Kurteel (who causes bowel pains) can be overcome. In the sense that Kurteel is a variant of Kasbeel (Beqa’s title after the fall), calling the name of Iaoth in aid seems to indicate some conjuration of his former divine nature.

PETAHYAH- Cabalistic angel who rules the Northern region of heaven.

OPIEL- Angel who aids individuals in obtaining love of a desired one.

Now let’s have some fun and strip away the spells for a second that these spirits are worked into and instead combine them in ways based on what we now know about them, and what they are supposedly good at doing. I also feel that it would be more powerful to group up the other beings that a spirit was originally featured with. So for example: Elubatel (Success), Ebuhuel, and Atuesuel (6th and 7th Books of Moses). Kadriel (To Know Secret Knowledge) Yahadriel, and Metatron (Zohar). Sabriel and Tarshiel (Solomonic angels). It may also be a good idea to work with entire hierarchies. All 72 Shem angels, all Solomonic angels, perhaps each spirit in ‘The Nuctemeron’ who has the desired powers that is needed, and combine them together for different spells. Geof Gray-Cobb, cobbled together different traditions, and it gets working results, though it could perhaps be more beneficial to stick with a single tradition when it comes to casting a spell rather than combining as many as possible. The beings of one tradition are likely more familiar with each other, and have better working relationships that are already established, which is why it was smart, and a good move on his part to pair the Shem angels together in the aforementioned spells.

For starters, let’s take the love spell which features both ANAEL and JAZAR. We could certainly add OPIEL to the mix (or any spirit for that matter within reason of accomplishing the set objective of the spell) as we now know that this spirit helps in matters of love. And though PAGIEL is in the Incantation to Rekindle a Mate’s Interest, there is no reason why this being could not be added to *any* spell in order to strengthen it, as we now know that it helps grant wishes (Note: I would recommend casting love spells at one's risk. They tend to go awry, and mess things up for all those concerned, though it might be entirely possible to avoid this kind of conflict by having the right kind of roster of spirits backing you up like I was suggesting above. One may also benefit from being a little creative, and finding different ways to work with them, as they are all great spirits).

Therefore, we could do something like this: Work exclusively with beings from a specific system, in this example I will use the ones from ‘The Nuctemeron’ and though they rule over different hours of the day, these forces still exist regardless of what time it is, and in my opinion, they can be called upon just as powerfully, regardless of what the clock says.

I chose to take all the names of the different spirits from ‘The Nuctemeron’, and create different categories in which one might benefit from having more direction in working with them. Of course one can also do whatever they desire to fit their needs. I just find that it makes more sense for me personally, and a lot easier when it has some form of organization like this. I even included my own interpretation in parenthesis on some of these "moral forces" and "personified virtues" as they can be confusing at times. Keep in mind that with my descriptions, this is how I mostly view them, so they could have completely different meanings from my own perspective. And also, once again I will repeat this passage from 'The Nuctemeron' as it is something that I’m really trying to drive home in this current blog.

CURSING: (Remember that all the beings of ‘The Nuctemeron’ were said to be "forces" and "personified virtues" so be careful with what you’re playing with. It may be best to work with external beings like the Shem angels as Geof Gray-Cobb did in NAP, if you’re going to curse. I personally have not experimented with these particular forces yet under this specific category, as it runs the possible risk of effecting the person calling them, but who knows? Maybe they could help with transmuting this stuff into its positive form within someone).

SCHIEKRON, genius of bestial love (I am not entirely sure on this one, though I think it is implying the worship of animal-like gods *not* bestiality. As they use the term “ministers of bestial love” in the passage. This to me would denote Paganism in general. At any rate, best way to go about it would be to make contact and find out!)

CAMAYSAR, genius of the marriage of contraries (again, a little confusing wording here, as this may have to do with bringing together opposing ideas, rather than bringing two people into union who may have differing opinions or personalities, but why not try both)
